Other Indicators
There are other well-established food insecurity indicators for early warning developed by other institutes. They can contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the food security situation in a region. Each of these indicators comes with its own strengths and weaknesses.
Food Security Portal by IFPRI:
Provides assessments of food price volatility and media reports. Some of these indicators are also incorporated in this website.
Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS) by the FAO:
Issues reports on the food security situation and watches price movements.
WFP Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM) by the WFP:
Provides food security reports, watches price movements, and does regular surveys with affected people.
Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS-NET) by the USAID:
Provides food security reports, watches price movements.
Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC):
Standardized tools to establish a common classification of degree of food insecurity.
World Bank Food Price Crisis Observatory by the World Bank:
Watches prices, identifies food insecurity hotspots, monitors food riots and policies.
Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS):
This is not an early warning website for food security but rather an inter-agency platform to improve data and transparency on agricultural markets and coordinate policy responses. Yet, it provides important and up-to-date information about the supply and demand situation.
